College has been so stressful for me and I’m not even in it yet. I have no idea which college to go to, how to apply, and what’s important when applying. What can I do?
The thought of college can definitely be stressful. Try to take it in steps to eliminate as much stress as possible. You have to take into consideration that there’s only so many things in your control, and to only worry about what you can actually change. One thing I would recommend would be to be vocal with your problems and concerns. Talking to your parents, guardians, guidance counselors and teachers about your questions and concerns is very helpful. They have been through the process before and are there to help you.
If you are thinking about applying to college, it is a good idea to consider your options. There are three options for applying to college: early action, early decision and regular decision. Most colleges will allow you to apply using Common App, which is a general college application that can be submitted to several schools at once. Figuring out what college you want to attend can be a fun experience if you make the most of it. There are thousands of colleges across the country and world that you can attend. Going on tours and exploring them online is a great way to find a college that’s right for you.
My boyfriend and I have just started dating, and so far it has been a good steady relationship. The only problem is that my friends haven’t seen me in a while and I’m losing contact with them. What can I do?
Relationships and friendships are two important things in someone’s life, especially in high school. Most students tend to struggle balancing the two, which is completely normal. First, try to be the one to make plans in advance so your plans don’t conflict. Try to make plans with your friends on Friday, then hang out with your boyfriend on Saturday. Another thing I would recommend is to try to get your boyfriend hanging out with you and your friends. This is a great way for your friends to get to know him, and a good way for your partner to feel more comfortable around your friends. Once they get to know each other, chances are they’ll become friendly too so you can make it a regular thing.
In general, you should keep in mind that you’re dealing with this problem because you have two groups of people that care about you. Respect that both your friends and your boyfriend care to see you and are trying to make time for you. If they see that you are trying, they’ll most likely be understanding and appreciate the effort of you trying to see them and it will work out.
I’m a freshman and I want to try out for the basketball team. I’m a boy and I’m average height, but I’ve never played for an organized league before and I’m really scared. Do you have any advice?
Trying a new sport is a great way to become more physically fit and to make new friends. It’s great that you’re interested in trying out for the basketball team! If you have any questions, you can ask head coach Mr. Mulkerrins, who teaches history in Room 128, or talk to captains Kyle Gaumond and Ridge Olsen.
If you are new to playing organized basketball, it would help to go into tryouts prepared. Go to a gym as much as you can and practice, practice, practice! The more you practice, the more prepared you’ll be, and the more confident you’ll be when it comes time for tryouts.
My final piece of advice is to get in the best shape possible. Go on runs and work on sprinting. Basketball requires a lot of endurance to be able to hustle up and down the court. You want to show the coaches that you’re in great shape. My last piece of advice is to watch the pros!
