As winter sports arrive, boys’ swim captain Randy Wentworth is preparing for a season of personal records for himself and his teammates.
This is Randy’s fourth year on the swim team and, as captain, he hopes to drive his teammates towards success and push them to the best of their abilities. Randy said, “My goal as captain, and our goal as a team, is always going to be improving. If we can get our guys to beat their best times by the end of the year that would be a successful season for us.”
Randy started swimming at a young age and has participated in many club teams throughout his life. This is his fourth and final season here at NAHS, and he has been training all summer and fall for this season. Randy said, “There is a lot of new potential on the team this year, with many newcomers hoping to fill the gaps we lost. We are looking to have a decent season.”
As the season starts, Randy hopes to set goals for his each event. Wentworth said, “My favorite events have to be the 50 and 100 yard freestyle. My personal records for these strokes are 24.2 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 55.0 seconds in the 100 freestyle.”
In addition to being captain of the swim team, Randy is ranked 13th in the senior class, a member of the NAHS Improv Troupe, and secretary of the Foreign Language National Honors Society. He is also a huge sports fan and enjoys following many of the New England professional sports teams.
Randy enjoys all types of food. “I enjoy trips to Chipotle and Boneyard a lot and my favorite all time food is definitely bacon,” he says. Randy’s favorite TV show is How I Met Your Mother, because “it has a hilarious emotional plot and I have never not enjoyed an episode.”
As for Randy’s favorite class, he is very intrigued by AP Psychology. Wentworth said, “I like psychology a lot because I’ve been interested in the subject, and want to pursue a career in this field.”
Wentworth continued, “I hope to become a psychiatrist after eight years of school, and then maybe move into a political field if the opportunity is there.”
Wentworth applied to University of South Florida, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and stated that, as of right now, UNC is his top choice.
As senior year is almost halfway over, Randy hopes to keep his grades up and continue to achieve greatness in his academics and athletics. Wentworth also plans to have a successful swim season as a leader and come up big this season with a young team of athletes.
