Black Friday is a big tradition in the United States that marks the start of the holiday shopping season. On the day after Thanksgiving, many stores around the country offer big sales on a variety of products, creating huge crowds of customers trying to get their hands on what they want.
With the coronavirus being in full force right now, stores are having to adapt and change how they will offer the deals they have in past years. Many stores are offering online shopping deals and/or extending Black Friday sales to a longer time period so that customers will not all be at one location at the same time to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Walmart, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods and other stores have announced plans to remain closed this Thanksgiving and give a headstart on deals online.
“Historically, deal hunting and holiday shopping can mean crowded events, and this isn’t a year for crowds,” said Target in a statement in regards to Black Friday.
Target will instead give customers sales now through November 28th with in-person sales and online deals.
Target’s vice president, Christina Hennington, said in a statement, “We’re taking a completely new approach to Black Friday, giving guests more flexibility and ensuring they can plan ahead for a safe, stress-free shopping experience.”
Walmart will also offer a longer window for sales both in store and online which began on November 4th and will extend through Black Friday.
Dick’s Sporting Goods will be offering “10 Days of Black Friday” starting on November 18th allowing both in-person shopping, excluding Thanksgiving, and online shopping with curbside pickup also available.
People in North Attleboro have enjoyed in-person Black Friday shopping in the past, with the Emerald Square Mall and the Wrentham Outlets being go-to places for shoppers. This year local shoppers plans are different.
Connor Davis, a senior at North Attleboro High School, enjoys finding great deals for holiday gifts by shopping on Black Friday. This year Davis is adapting and will instead do online shopping.
“I’m really upset that I won’t be able to go from store to store and see the deals, but obviously that can’t happen while maintaining COVID guidelines. Instead I’ll come up with a list of things I plan on buying and will look around online to find the best deals for each of those items,” Davis said.
Some other shoppers actually prefer this new way of offering holiday deals, since they can still get good deals while avoiding the dreaded crowds.
Fuller Collins is a senior at North Attleboro High School who uses Black Friday as an opportunity to get the best deals on products he needs as well as gifts for the holidays. He is excited for the extended deals offered online and plans to use it to his advantage.
“Since stores are all advertising and offering deals online, I can see the deals easier than in years past just by going to their websites. This gives me a lot more time to research what the best possible deals are all from my own home,” Collins said.
Featured below are some of those deals that are already being offered as a part of this year’s extended Black Friday deals.
Apple AirPods: $99 (save $59)
Both Amazon and Walmart are currently offering discounted prices for Apple AirPods and can be found on either of their websites for $99. AirPods are a popular item and are likely to be sold out quickly, so it’s best to jump on this deal as soon as possible since it is likely this is the lowest price you will see them at.
4k 50” Roku Smart TV: $260 (save $90)
This sale is currently being offered as a part of Walmart’s early deals. The TV has Roku’s streaming service built in, which allows you to easily access other streaming platforms like Hulu and Netflix. $260 for a 4k smart TV is a steal, but don’t worry if you can’t get your hands on it, there will be plenty of other TV deals as we approach Black Friday.
Amazon Echo Show 5: $45 (save$45)
The Amazon Echo Show combines Alexa with a 5 inch display which makes for a great home assistant and gives options for things like setting alarms, organizing your calendar and listening to music. Amazon is currently offering the Echo Show 5 for half price on their site. You might want to order quickly, since it’s likely to sell out and go up in price.
These are only some of the deals available right now. You can find plenty of other deals on many different products just by looking them up online. If you can’t find the deal you’re looking for now, it will likely be available at some point soon, so be patient and consistently check stores and websites to get the best deal possible.
