This year’s Winter Art Show and Coffee House is taking place this Friday, January 15th at 6:30 p.m., and will be held in the NAHS cafeteria. The cost of admission is $5, and the money raised will go to the Visual Art Department, as well as the Visual Art Department Scholarship.

Mr. Flanagan started the scholarship to support students who plan on pursuing art in college. It is awarded to two seniors every year, one for $600 and one for $400. The scholarship has awarded a total of $5,000 to date.
When asked about the purpose of the Art Show, Mr. Flanagan replied, “It’s our way of promoting the Art Department.” He continued, “Students often work in the classroom where people can’t see what they’re doing, so this is a chance to showcase their art and show the importance of art in the community.”

The students involved seem to agree with that sentiment, with senior Anna MacPherson saying, “We all work so hard during the semester and put so much of ourselves into our work, so it’s nice to see our art displayed in this way. The Art Show for us is like a game in athletics or a performance in the theater or music departments; we look forward to it all year.”

“It is a great opportunity for young artists to display their work in a gallery setting, said junior Maria Botelho. “It’s nice to be able to share our work with our friends, family and the community.”
This Art Show is the 6th annual collaborative effort with Coffee House. Snacks and beverages will be available, and performances start at 7:00.
